A Kitchen in Need of a Remodel (Before)
Many homes built in the 50s and 60s used dark cabinetry and Formica in their kitchen design. Through wear and tear, these types of materials begin to lose their original appeal and structural integrity. Appliances fail and lighting is usually inadequate as well. Most floors were some type of vinyl or asbestos based flooring. For these reasons, a country kitchen remodel was a perfect fit for this classic home.
A Fresh Country Look (After)
On this project, we used a number of finishes to create a full country kitchen remodel:
- bamboo-engineered hardwood floors
- white cabinetry with open shelving
- country-style apron front sink
- butcher block countertops
In addition, a custom wine niche, built-in desk, and pantry made this a country kitchen that is a showpiece of the home, as well a pleasure to cook and entertain in.
It was a big job with doorways widened; new floors; new appliances; new cabinets; new island; new lighting; new window framing; wall/ceiling texture and paint, and more… and we LOVE it. Almost a year later the quality of the work stands up and there isn’t anything we would change.
A Better Use of Space
There are many ways to create a more functional kitchen space. Using quality cabinetry provides an opportunity to pick from many types of cabinetry designed for many different purposes. Desks, pantries, spice cabinets, fully opening pot drawers, and open shelves are a few of the many options available. These were used to great effect in this country kitchen remodel.
Backsplashes provide an opportunity to make a statement with a variety of materials. In this country kitchen remodel, a 3” x 3” stone tile helped to create a country style with a nice diamond deco accent placed above the range. Butcher block countertops have become very popular in country/cottage style kitchens, as well. Bamboo flooring was used for its appearance and longevity.
